not another paper project again

I realized that kids start having a mind of their own at the age of three and a half (at least that is true for my DD).   Gone are the days when I can let her wear the clothes of my choice.  These days, the conversations go:  Mommy: "Do you want to wear this pants?".  Frances:  "No, I like this dress".  Then the following day, Mommy says "Do you want to wear this (other) dress" and she goes "I want to wear pants today".  I swear, I had to use reverse psychology on her sometimes in order to end up getting what I want.  But such is not the case for her halloween costume.

Last week, they were allowed to wear costumes in school.  She told me she wants to be a ghost (I was heartbroken since I already bought her a Belle costume).  I showed her pictures of what a ghost looks like but she didn't like white all over.  And she did not want to cover her face.  So to avoid further argument, I brought her to the store and asked her to pick what she liked.  And this was what she put together (totally not a ghost!).

I actually created the design on her shirt using this tutorial.  This is the first time for me to use freezer paper and fabric paint for stenciling and I love it!  The edges are so clean and crisp my hubby thought it was store bought.  I see lots of design possibilities in our future (and this may very well be the second lease on life my Cricut has been waiting for!).

Thanks for stopping by!

flower box card

A friend recently celebrated her birthday.  I whipped up a card set for her, keeping it fresh and simple (just like the recipient). I was happy to use Memory Box's flower box die which I got quite some time ago but never had the chance to play with.

Here is my card...  I used Papertrey's white cardstock, Iconic Images and Birthday Basics stamp sets, hawaiian shores cardstock and inks.

And here's the rest of the family.  I used melon berry, harvest gold and hibiscus burst. I popped up the flower box using  dimensional adhesive for some added texture. Looking at them made me want to get an actual flower box!

I thought I'd pretty up the envies too.  I used one of the fillable frames set.

And here is the finished package.

Hope you are having a fabulous week!

Owl Pillow Pack

Owls are all the hoot this year (no pun intended).  So for a black-and-white-themed halloween party that I am plan ning with the other craftmates, I decided to create an owl pillow pack for the takeaways.

Thanks to my old buddy, my personal cutting machine and the inspiration of Kerry's Paper Crafts,  I created a black and white owl.

It only takes 3 shapes and very little time to create this cute creature.  Super-fun craft to do even with kids this rainy Sunday and can be used to pack the candies for trick or treaters.

Have a fun but safe halloween!

seed packet card

When Papertrey introduced their garden variety collection, I was instantly drawn to the set.  I love the idea of creating seed packets and decorating them with fabulous die cuts.  However, I do not have people in my life who are avid gardeners. So I just purchased parts of the set that I can use for other applications.

I made a card set using the seed packet frame and some violets which are one of my favourites from PTI's Year of Flower Collection.  I also used bitty dots patterned paper and Amuse ink.

The envelope also got some love...

All together now...

Hope you are having a great weekend!

flashback friday - hide and seek

I am back with a quick post today of a layout I made early this year (can't believe we are in the last quarter now!).  Winter will be here before we know it, sigh...  Anywho, this was taken during one of the festivals we attended last winter.  I took a day off on the Friday before the event so we can enjoy the park before it gets crowded.  For my DD, every tree is an invitation to play hide and seek.  So here we are, hiding away...

I used Papertrey's eyelet die and cardstock, some October Afternoon patterned paper, Quickutz alpha die, My Creative Time's banner dies and some buttons from my stash.

Have a good weekend everyone!

papertrey october blog hop

It's that time of the month again... Papertrey Blog Hop!

This month it is all about breaking out of your comfort zone and trying out some non-traditional colour schemes for a holiday card or tag!  Nicole gave us several options for non traditional colour combos and I chose this one.

Here is the Christmas card I created with these yummy colours.

I used Papertrey's Hawaiian Shores and white cardstock, Tree Trimming Trio stamp and die, Aqua Mist, Raspberry Fizz and Smokey Shadow ink and a pink striped washi tape.

On the inside of  the card, I used my new favourite Stylish Sentiments: Holiday set.

Thanks for stopping by! Happy hopping...

The Craftmates will be joining our very first craft show on November 10 & 11 at the Jade Gardens in Milton.

We're all very excited about this upcoming event. If you are from the GTA, please come and say "hi".

not another paper project

My DD has been requesting for us to bake and decorate cookies together.  I have been putting it off because I have not found an apron I liked for her (I know, I'm picky!).  Last weekend however, hubby and some friends went out to watch a concert (I am not a fan).  So I volunteered to babysit my DD and my friend's daughter.  With the whole night to ourselves, what are  girls to do?

It was the perfect time to do a little baking fest.  So now, I really need an apron.  Since I cannot find one, I just decided to make one.

I got the tutorial from here.  It was quite easy and I quickly finished it in under an hour (craftmate Virns will be proud!).

Here she is proudly wearing mommy's labour of love

But alas, when her friend showed up with 2 aprons, she ditched mommy's apron for the cupcake one, sigh!

So now, I have an unused, clean apron ready for test drive in the next baking round.

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy the rest of the week and have a cookie!

antique box

The client request was for a Tiffany box cake.

But I had a different vision for Sarah Jo, multi-talented painter who celebrated her 9th birthday last weekend.  Her mom was generous enough to give me my artistic freedom and let my imagination run wild with this project.

I kept the Tiffany blue, and created this antique jewelry box cake, fitting for an old soul with a heart of (white) gold.

Have a glorious week!

Stay sweet,

Bebsy

Let's Paws Awhile

It has been a while since I featured my babies (i.e.,  Sam & Mambo) in the Craftmates blog. They lived in 2  rentals in different cities while we wait for our home to be built.  They had been wonderful throughout the entire process.

My 2 gypsies en route to rental house number 2

Now that I am slowly settling in the new house, it is high time I "paws awhile" to reward Sam and Mambo for their patience (and "good boy"-ness) with their favourite treat, peanut butter biscuits.  I got the recipe from an amazing baker and blogger, Christina of Sweet Peas Kitchen.  If anyone wants to try it, below is link to the recipe:
Voila!  I was able to whip up this doggy-licious treats from scratch in a matter of 45 mins give or take.
Fresh off the oven
Although the only trick they know is “sit”, they show their appreciation in so many other ways.
Picture taken from our old home while we were packing
Enjoy your Sunday!

on my couch

It's time again to pull out an unloved set and make something with it.  This time, I chose the On My Couch set which I got second hand from someone over at the Papertrey forum. I was drawn to this set as it is a novelty to me to be able to create a "scene" on my card (plus I love the typewriter font).

Here is my card.  Aside from the OMC set, I also used Papertrey cardstock, My Mind's Eye pre-folded card base and patterned paper from Cosmo Cricket and MME.

I also dressed up the envelope a bit to coordinate with  the card..

Since I have my supplies out, why not make three more?

And one more... for a dear friend who recently retired.  The inside of the card said "Time to relax!"

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

flashback friday- pwp sketch challenge #3

Before we started this blog, I have been using Leigh's sketches over at Pages with Papertrey.  Here is one of the early layouts I did using her sketch challenge.  Being very new at challenges then, I got a lot of inspiration from her beautiful layout.

Here is the sketch...

And here is my layout...  It is for one of our trips to Toronto Island during summer of 2011.  I used Papertrey stamps (wonderful words additions, fancy flourishes), dies (wonderful words, beautiful blooms), buttons and felt.   I also used October Afternoon patterned paper.

Have a great weekend everyone!

notebooks galore

One of the things that got me hooked into Papertrey was the cute notebooks that can be created using their Take Note stamp set.  If you know me, you know  that I am the queen of Things to Do.  I always have a list of To Do's for both work and personal stuff.  And an old school notebook is my medium of choice when it comes to jotting things down.  The “List” is so sacred to me that if I do something  that is not on my list, I jot it down and cross it off (I know, I need help!).

Here are a few of them that I did for an upcoming craft show that the “Craftmates and Friends” will be joining next month.  More of that on another post :)

I used Papertrey Stamp (Take Note), dies (heart border, eyelet border, limitless layers), cardstock and ink.  I also used patterned paper from Crate Paper's Paperdoll Collection.

And while on the topic of notebooks, I also did a mini book for our recent trip to Disneyworld.  I've always imagined Frances chasing  Disney characters asking them to sign on her book.  But alas, things do not always happen as expected.  So Disney has come and gone and we still have a clean, unsigned book.  All she just wanted to do was hold on to the book and not have anyone sign on it!  Oh well, I will just add pictures later and be okay with not having any autograph, sigh!

I used  Papertrey's Fabulous Frames die, modern alphabet die and some stickers I got from M's for the cover.

Here's a sampling of the inside of the mini book which I bound using my pink Zutter Bind It All tool.  I Mod Podged (yes, mod podge is also a verb!) some Crate patterned paper to a thick cardstock  to create the pages of my book.

I used the large Limitless Layers Oval die for create my photo  frames.

Thanks for stopping by!
